Biotechnology is technology that uses biological systems, or parts of these organisms to develop or create different product life.

Brewing and baking bread are examples of processes that fall within the concept of biotechnology (the use of yeast (= a living organism) to produce the desired product). typically utilize traditional processes such as living organisms in their natural form (or further developed by breeding), whereas a more modern form of biotechnology generally will involve more advanced modification of biological systems or organisms.

With the development of genetic engineering in the 1970s, research in the field of biotechnology (and other related fields such as medicine, biology, etc.) are growing rapidly because of new possibilities to make changes in an organism's genetic material (DNA).
